We seek students from
across the region with diverse
backgrounds who will benefit from and contribute to our school
community. These
are students who are committed to learning, who are eager and able to
participate in partner, small-group, whole-group, and individual
projects, and
who are willing to actively engage every day. Our students are
receptive to
feedback, attentive to their teachers and peers, and willing to try new
things.
They are willing to work hard to find answers yet able to approach
problem-solving
in playful ways. While our teachers spend one-on-one time with their
students
every day, students are expected to work independently and with peers
when
their teacher is working with other students.
We invite you to come for
a tour of our school. The
best way to understand our approach is
to experience first-hand the collaboration of teachers and students in
our
classrooms and across our campus.
In
order for you to be able to ask all of your questions and give us an
overview
of your goals for your child, this tour is designed for adults. Children are usually
introduced to the
school during an admission screening, once their parents have decided
to submit
an application.
To make an appointment to
visit the school, or to receive a
packet of information, please call Jennifer Weeden at 508-839-0038, or
e-mail admissions@touchstoneschool.com Tours are scheduled on
Tuesday, Wednesday,
or Thursday mornings.
Once you’ve taken a tour,
you may submit an
application. A
complete application
consists of:
Application
for Admission form
Consent
to Release Records form
A
non-refundable application fee
of $50
For our four- and
five-year-olds, we ask that the children
have had their applicable birthdays by September 1 of that school year.
For our Older Student
Program, which provides a
middle-school (7th and 8th
grade) experience for students
ages 12 to 14, we require a two-year commitment and therefore cannot
consider
children older than 13 seeking a one-year placement.
Once we receive your
complete application, we will:
Request
records from your child’s
current/previous school, if applicable, and will send an evaluation
form to
your child’s teacher.
Schedule
a time for your child to
visit our school:
- Children
applying for entrance into our 4- or 5-year-old classrooms will meet
with teachers and a small group of children.
They will experience a condensed school
day, with story time, group time, snack, and clean-up time.
- Older
children will spend a full school day here in one of our classrooms. Our teachers will assess
your child’s math, reading, and writing levels as well as his or her
ability to participate as a member of the class.
Our Admissions Committee
will make a decision about
admitting your child based on the following factors:
An
assessment of your child based
primarily on our observations and secondarily on written records and
assessments from other schools he or she has attended.
Our
sense of the compatibility of
your family’s educational values and goals with the program that we
offer.
Suitability
of our educational
program in relation to your child’s learning and developmental profile.
A
balance of boys and girls and a
good learning group overall in each classroom.
Touchstone has neither
testing nor evaluation services. Should
additional information about your
child be required, we must ask you to provide this at your own expense. We require that you
provide any academic or
psychological assessments done in the past three years.
If your child is accepted
into the school, you will receive
a letter of acceptance and an Enrollment Agreement.
The return of the signed Enrollment Agreement,
along with the
required deposit by the given deadline (usually within about two weeks
of your
receipt of the agreement), indicates that you have accepted the
placement
offered. Enrollment
becomes official
only after the school has received the signed Enrollment Agreement and
deposit. If we are
unable to offer a
place to your child at the school, you will be notified by letter.
